BANCHA TEA PREPARATION – IT’S SO EASY TO MAKE YOUR BANCHA
The correct preparation of Bancha tea is almost as important as the quality of the tea itself, because the brewing time and water temperature affect the taste. The teapot can also be crucial for the taste, because green tea needs space to develop its aroma - so a large tea strainer is better suited for Sencha than a tea egg, for example.
In terms of preparation, however, Bancha tea differs little from other types of green tea and is similar to the preparation of Sencha:
For one liter of green tea you need about 20g of loose green tea leaves, so 4-6 teaspoons, depending on how intense you want the Bancha tea to be.
Bancha tea should never be poured over with boiling water, otherwise valuable active ingredients will be lost. The higher the water temperature, the more bitter the taste. The optimal water temperature is therefore around 90 degrees.
The Bancha has a short brewing time of about 1-1.5 minutes. This is because with a longer brewing time, more bitter substances are released from the tea leaves.
A second infusion releases additional active ingredients from the tea, allowing the full spectrum of effects and flavor nuances to unfold. For the second infusion, you can vary both the temperature and brewing time slightly, depending on your taste.
